Vegan Colour or Normal Colour? What really sets them apart.

Two black colour bowls, one with rich brown colour and a brush, on a travertine counter

It is one of the most common questions we hear during colour consultations: should I choose vegan colour or normal colour? The answer surprises most clients. At Ganda Hair Studio, both of our colour lines are vegan. The real difference is in the formula, and in what your scalp and hair need.

How permanent hair colour works

Every permanent colour works inside the hair, not just on the surface. The outer layer of each strand, the cuticle, is gently opened so colour can reach the cortex underneath. There, your natural pigment is softened and new colour molecules settle into the strand. When the cuticle closes again, the colour stays locked in, which is why permanent colour lasts and washes out slowly rather than fading in days.

What makes our Vegan Colour different

To open the cuticle, colour needs an alkaline agent. Our Normal Colour uses ammonia, the classic agent professional colour has relied on for decades. Our Vegan Colour uses a milder alkaline alternative instead, so it is ammonia-free. Both of our colour lines are paraben-free. In the chair, that means very little scent and a softer feel on the scalp while the colour develops.

When Normal Colour is the right choice

Normal Colour is our classic professional formula. It is a dependable choice for full colour changes, rich even tones and covering grey, and it suits most hair and scalp types.

When Vegan Colour is the right choice

Vegan Colour is a comfortable choice if your scalp is sensitive, if you colour your hair often, or if you simply prefer an ammonia-free formula. It gives the same rich, even result and covers grey just as well, with a gentler experience during application.

How Ganda decides

There is no better or worse option, only the right one for you. During your consultation, Ganda looks at your scalp, the condition of your hair, your colour history and the result you want. Then he recommends the formula that will give you the best colour with the most comfort.

Caring for your colour

Whichever you choose, wait 3 days before your first wash and use a colour-safe shampoo. We always recommend a Nourish Hair Spa about 3 days after colouring to keep the hair soft and the colour vibrant.

FAQ

Is vegan hair colour better for my hair?
Both of our colour lines are vegan and both give beautiful results. Both are paraben-free, and Vegan Colour is also ammonia-free, which many clients with sensitive scalps find more comfortable, and a gentler choice if you colour often.
Does vegan colour last as long?
Both are permanent colours that work inside the strand. How long colour lasts depends mostly on your hair and your aftercare.
Can I switch from Normal to Vegan Colour?
Yes. Ganda will match your current tone, and you can switch at your next root or full colour.
